Western Cape: Concerted efforts and various operations conducted by police in the Nyanga policing precinct resulted in 172 suspects being arrested in the area. The latter were apprehended over the past seven days for crimes committed in Browns Farm, Crossroads, Nyanga, Cossovo and Samora Machel, Heinz Park and Sweet Home Farms.
Of the total number of arrests 103 suspects were arrested from Friday to Sunday only. Three suspects were apprehended for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, 13 suspects were apprehended for cases of murder, more than 20 for dealing and possession of drugs, 19 for dealing in liquor, 20 for cases of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) as well as drunken driving.
Other suspects were apprehended for assault, crimes against women and children, possession of stolen vehicle, malicious damage to property and other crimes.
Liters of liquor, substantial amounts of drugs, two firearms and dangerous weapons were confiscated. Members were applauded for their achievements in ensuring that those who continue to break the law are brought to book.
