PRISON BREAK UPDATE: 5 OF THE 6 PRISONERS WHO ESCAPED FROM POLLSMOOR PRISON HAVE BEEN REARRESTED

12 Mar 2018, Cape Town: Three of the six inmates who escaped from the Pollsmoor Correctional facility near Tokai has been rearrested as the hunt for the escapees intensifies.

Western Cape Correctional Services Regional Commissioner, Delekile Klaas, says the inmates, aged between 20 and 24 years were being held in the Youth B4 Section.

Klaas said: “Since this morning our officials, the police and the detectives have been on the manhunt to try and trace the whereabouts of the six offenders and they’ve been following all the leads. This led to the rearrest of three offenders so currently, only three offenders are on the run.”

According to Klaas, one escapee was apprehended in Kleinvlei and 2 in Ocean View.

“Currently only three offenders are on the run. We hope that we will also be able to rearrest the other three in the next 72 hours.”


LATEST UPDATE - 21h00: Five of the six inmates who escaped from Pollsmoor Prison outside Cape Town have been re-arrested tonight.

Regional Correctional Services Commissioner Delekile Klaas says a manhunt is continuing for the sixth inmate, Siphenathi Ntantiso.



1 PRISONER STILL ON THE RUN:

What are they "in" for:
Four were serving short sentences:

  • One due to be released in April
  • Two due for released in May
  • The last one serving 514 days for parole break

The other two a serving sentences of:
  • One serving 12 years for attempted murder and house breaking
  • The other was serving four years for rape
