Mitchell’s Plain: Police are making headway in removing firearms from the streets in Mitchell's Plain as indicated by the latest interventions yesterday.
On Tuesday 2019-01-29 at 16:40 members of the Anti-Gang Unit were busy with crime prevention patrols in Garcia Street, Tafelsig. They spotted a suspicious male and searched him and found three 9mm live rounds in his possession. The suspect, a
37-year-old male was arrested.
During the early hours of 2019-01-29 the AGU pursued information of an unlicensed firearm at an address in Kiaathof Street, Eastridge. The residence was searched and a Norinco 9mm firearm with six rounds of ammunition were found. The suspect, a 33 year old male was arrested.
On Tuesday 2019-01-29 at 03:15 members of the Mitchell's Plain Cluster Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention patrols when they spotted suspicious males. The one male started running and the police gave chase. While he was running, they saw the suspect throwing something like a firearm into a yard. When police caught the suspect and took him to the place where he had thrown the item, they found a 7.65mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition. The firearm had been reported stolen in Athlone during April 2017. The suspect, a 23-year-old male was arrested.
All the suspects are due to make court appearances in Mitchell’s Plain once they have been charged.
