4 Jul 2017, Kempton Park: A 36-year-old police officer has been injured in a shooting on the corner of Maple and Constantia Street in Pomona, Kempton Park this evening.

It is believed that the police officer sustained a single gunshot wound to his leg after questioning five men in a stationary vehicle.

Reports indicate that a shootout ensued at approximately 19h30 and that the men in the car left the scene.

The police officer was transported to a hospital in Benoni for further medical care. Local authorities will be conducting an investigation into the incident.
