SAPS NEWS: FINAL SALUTE FOR A BRAVE K9 OFFICER
SAPS | National SA News | NARI

14 Apr 2018, Eastern Cape: Members and their K9-colleagues, SAPS employees from the Uitenhage Cluster and the community were saddened today as they learned of the untimely passing of one of Uitenhage K9's heroes, Lenox, a 10-year-old german shepherd.

Lenox served the Uitenhage Cluster with pride since 2013 and contributed towards the successful apprehension of several suspects during tackles, which contributed in the arrest of many suspects in serious cases.

Lenox was known to be a very aggressive dog and only his female handler, Sergeant Mellisa Potgieter, knew how to handle him as he only trusted her.

Together, they also participated in various educational talks at various schools and festivals. Lenox, who was a patrol dog, was also involved in the successful tackling of several suspects which ultimately contributed to several successful convictions.

Unfortunately, the health of Lenox started to deteriorate since March 2018 and on Thursday, 12 April 2018, his condition worsened and he was rushed to a local veterinarian, where he was diagnosed with cancer.

Due to the seriousness of his illness, Lenox had to leave his earthly calling and was called for higher duties.

A private ceremony will be arranged by his handler in the next few days. "We salute you, Lenox".
