23 Jun 2017, Verulam, Kwa-Zulu Natal: A Taxi boss has been shot dead & his passenger escaped uninjured after a gunman opened fire on them near a High School in Verulam.
At approx 10h09 Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the Oakford Road inf Verulam after the RUSA Operations Center received multiple calls that a man was seen driving a car at high speed whilst seated on top of a deceased body.
Reaction Officers arrived on scene & found a police vehicle in attendance. A white Toyota Corolla was found park across the road.
A man was found on the drivers seat with a bullet wound to his head. Paramedics confirmed that the man was deceased.
According to a passenger in the vehicle, the victim (driver) was a local taxi owner. He parked in Grange, Verulam when a lone gunman, armed with a 9mm pistol opened fire on them through the left front passenger window.
The suspect then fled in a maroon Toyota Run-X. The passenger then sat on top of his bleeding friend & drove for several kilometers towards the Osindsweni Hospital. He came to a stop after the front tyre was damaged.
The small-built passenger explained that he could not move the bleeding victim who weighted in the excess of 140kg. It's believed that the deceased survived a previous attack when he was ambushed near his residence a few months ago.
