11 Feb 2018, Heidelberg: Abigail Meyer, a member of the Heidelberg Volunteer Medics group was tragically killed on Friday in a hijacking outside her house.

"You can now be a mamma, and not a paramedic." This is what a colleague of Elzona Meyer's told her, after Elzona was called out on an emergency which involved her own daughter.

Elzona was on duty in Nigel when the call came through about a highjacking right in front of her own home.

"I had first thought that the address is wrong, but the more information that came through, the more I realized that there is something terribly wrong. My phone did not stop ringing while I was rushing home."

Apparently, Abigail and her friend Jaco, approximately at 19:45 arrived home from the gym, where they would swap cars to go and get a take away.

Abigail was on her way to Jaco's car when they where suddenly approached by 4 men and shot at, the men taking Jaco's Fiesta and fleeing in it.

In the shooting, Abigail was hit in the abdomen. She still managed to say to Jaco:"I am hurt, please help me!"

Since the phones where in the car, Jaco called out for help from the street, and was assisted by neighbors who called for help. This was the call which changed Elzona's life forever.

Elzona found her daughter bleeding out, and already showing signs of shock and multi organ failure, but the trained paramedic side took over with Elzona immediately, attempting to stabilize Abigail.

"You can be a mamma now, and not paramedic", Elzona was told by her colleague when Abigail was airlifted to the Hospital.

On arrival at Hospital, Abigail was already in cardiac arrest, and Elzona was given permission to sit in, but after a while she touched the ER specialist's arm, and told him, "it is over.'

Time of death was 21.20. (Abigail was born 20 years ago at 22.18) The hijacked vehicle was found abandoned and locked in the Traskane Township.
