3 Jul 2017, Cape Town: The 26-year-old driver and his girlfriend were at the KFC at Avonwood Square at about 03h00 on Saturday when the hijackers approached his Chana truck. The gang left the man behind and drove off with his girlfriend. The woman was gang-raped by two of the men and also viciously assaulted.

They then dumped the battered woman, thinking she was dead. But she had survived the horror attack and after some time managed to get assistance.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut confirms the attack.

“This office can confirm that the circumstances surrounding a hijacking and rape are being investigated following an incident yesterday at around 3.20am in Avonwood Square, Elsies River,” he says.

“The victim, a 26-year-old man, was hijacked by four male suspects. They drove off with his Chana LDV with his girlfriend still inside.

“She was then raped by two of the suspects. No one has been arrested as yet.”

Community Police Forum of Elsies River executive member Imraahn Mukaddam says he had heard about the incident and is worried by what is happening in the community.
