A 48 year old policeman has been killed and his wife injured following a shooting on Sundial Place in Chettys Hill - Tongaat a short while ago.

At approximately 08:23 Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from a resident in the area reporting multiple shots being fired at the Mission which is situated next to a church.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and upon it was established that Warrant Officer Shaun Zangwa based at the Tongaat SAPS had approached his wife who prepares meals at the Mission on Sundays.

The couple began to argue when the SAPS Official drew him 9mm service pistol and fired three shots at her.

One bullet struck her in the arm. He then proceeded to an opened ground behind the Mission and shot himself once in the head.

Medics were called out to the scene and upon arrival found that the policeman had been fatally injured and was declared deceased.

His wife was rushed to the Tongaat Clinic by a member of public before being transferred to hospital in a stable condition.

A case of attempted murder and suicide is being investigated.
