3 May 2018, Thabazimbi, Limpopo: Mike Hodge was mauled by a lion in his sanctuary as he went to investigate a "strange smell".
Hodge was grabbed and dragged towards the bushes by the lion in full view of onlookers. The powerful lion eventually let go of his prey after a warden fired a gunshot which scared the lion.
Mike was rushed to hospital with injuries to his neck and jaw.

The male lion, Shamba, has been shot dead "for being a wild animal" when it pounced on a man who entered its enclosure at a safari park.
"Keepers shot Shamba the lion dead in the terrifying incident, it has been confirmed."
Mike, the owner of the park, is recovering in hospital after suffering cuts and a broken jaw in the incident at Marakele Animal Sanctuary in Thabazimbi, South Africa, on Saturday.
