CAPE TOWN SAPS: Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder, Possession of Hijacked Vehicle and Tik in Khayelitsha

Western Cape: Vigilant Public Order Police (POPS) members responded to information and arrested a 28 year old suspect whilst doing visible policing in Khayelitsha.
On 2018-12-19 at about 14:00 members were driving in Lansdowne road opposite Greenpoint informal settlement. A member of the public informed them that their vehicle a Nissan 1400 LDV had just been hijacked in Lingelethu-West. The members spotted the LDV
in Lansdowne Road and a chase ensued.
The suspects started shooting at the members and members returned fire. The vehicle drove towards Bangiso Drive where it landed on the toilets at Donkey Square. The driver a 28 year old man was arrested with a knife in his possession as well one packet of tik. The hijacked vehicle was recovered although it was damaged.
An attempted murder, possession of hijacked motor vehicle and possession of drugs cases were registered.
In an unrelated matter on Wednesday 2018-12-18 at about 12:10, Khayelitsha SAPS members successfully arrested a suspect and seized a 9mm imitation firearm after they were approached by a member of the community that required their assistance after being robbed by two unknown males who was armed.
The members followed up and patrolled the area with the description the complainant gave them and soon traced the suspects who ran from the police after being spotted. Members gave chase and one of the suspects turned towards the police and pointed them with the fire arm. One of the members reacted and fired two warning shots. The suspect resisted arrest and the officer managed to successfully arrest him and took him into custody where he is currently being held at Khayelitsha SAPS on charges of pointing of a firearm. The second suspect was also apprehended.
Both suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once charged on the mentioned charges.
