6 Jul 2017, Cape Town: The Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Bongani Mkongi visited Lingelethu, Khayelitsha today to attend a prayer service for police safety.

In his welcoming speech the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Manci, thanked the Police Minister and his Deputy for their support following the brazen attack on the Lingelethu Police Station on the morning of 28 June 2017 just before three o'clock.

The Deputy Minister praised the Sergeant who was on duty at the Community Service Centre on that fateful morning.

The Sergeant acted immediately by taking on the attackers thus protecting the life of his colleagues and the property of the State. His bravery will be rewarded.

The Cluster Commander of Khayelitsha Cluster, Major General Johan Brand said in his briefing that Community Service Centres always received complainants from the community with open doors.

But the attacks on police members have compelled the organisation to change its approach by tightening security and safeguarding the members of the police in the Khayelitsha Cluster.
