7 Oct 2017, Cape Town: The police department says some of eight suspects that have been arrested on the N1 freeway outside the Huguenot Tunnel near Cape Town may be linked to the killing of 18 people at the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi last week.
Two others were arrested earlier this week. A new station commander has been appointed since the killings and an additional 50 police officials have been deployed to the area.
A task team has also been established to try and restore stability to the area. Police Department spokeperson, Vuyo Mhaga says police pounced on a vehicle believed to be destined for the Eastern Cape and arrested the suspects. He says they are expected to appear in court soon.
