SAPS CONFIRMED THAT THE BODY OF A CHILD WAS FOUND IN STRAND

4 Jun 2017, Strand: On Sunday afternoon, Cape Town police were called to the scene after the body of a child was found along Broadway Road near the Strand Fire Station in Strand, Western Cape.

The police's Frederick van Wyk says, “We can confirm that the body of a child was found Sunday afternoon, in Nomzamo in Strand.

"Circumstances of the death of this child are under investigation," Van Wyk said.



It has been confirmed that the body that was found is the body of a 5-year old Minentle Lekatha.

Minentle, a Grade R pupil at ACJ Phakade Primary School in Nomzamo, Strand, was found on the last day of Child Protection Week yesterday.

According to her grandmother, Thelma Bomela, Minentle went missing on Saturday, 3 June 2017 at around 16:00.

Her eyes gouged out, the fourth child found murdered in four weeks. It's believed that she was raped and brutally murdered and her body was dumped under a shallow bridge.

Police investigation continues.
