CAPE TOWN: EIGHT FIREARMS HAVE BEEN RECOVERED WITH NINE SUSPECTS ARRESTED MANENBERG

21 Apr 2018, CApe Town: Eight firearms have been recovered with nine men arrested for the period 13 to 20 April 2018, within the Manenberg policing precinct. The integrated operation has been successful in terms of recovering firearms and arresting perpetrators.

On Thursday 2018-04-19 at 17:00 two men aged 29 years and 37 years were arrested for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The two men were arrested after they had been found in a back yard in Pecos Walk, where SAPS members conducted a search and found the firearm buried in the yard.

The premises were searched after SAPS had received information about the two, namely that they were in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and that it had been hidden. The two men will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon.



Also on Thursday 2018-04-19 at 22:20 SAPS members recovered a firearm on the corners of Plate and Rio Grande Walk, Manenberg. SAPS members deployed in the area were doing foot patrols at an identified hotspot when they saw men standing in Red River Walk.

One of them had a firearm in his hands. As he saw the police members, he pointed it at them, and started to run. SAPS members gave chase until he dropped the firearm, which was then recovered and handed in as evidence.

A case of possession of firearm has been opened for investigation. The suspect is known to the police and will be arrested in due course.

Later on Thursday 2018-04-19 at 23:30 a 24 year old man was arrested for the possession of a firearm and ammunition. SAPS members attached to the emergency response unit deployed in the area to combat gang violence were on patrol in the Manenberg residential area.

As they drove down Lillian Walk they saw two men who, as soon as they saw the marked police vehicle, started running. As the one suspect ran he threw a firearm on top of the roof of a house.


SAPS members managed to corner him and recover the firearm from the roof of the house. The 24 year old suspect will be appearing in Athlone Magistrate’s Court soon.

Sixty-one drug houses have been searched with 35 persons arrested for the possession of drugs. Twenty-two shebeen operations were also executed, resulting in the confiscation of 34.5 litres of alcohol. One person was arrested for contravening the Liquor Act.
