22 Apr 2017, Mitchells Plain: Mitchell’s Plain Flash (Firearms, Liquor and Second Hand Goods) unit members arrested two suspects in liquor and second hand goods operations Western Cape SAPS' efforts to address the causes of crime, members attached to the Mitchell’s Plain Flash Unit executed a search warrant at a house in Hengelaar Street, Beacon Valley Mitchell's Plain on Thursday (2017-04-20) at about 15:00 after receiving information that the suspect is selling liquor without a valid license.

During the search the members found 39.75 liters of liquor inside the house.

The members also confiscated 25 crates of beer and 268 empty bottles. A 57 year old man was arrested for dealing in liquor without a valid license.



Later the same day at about 16:30 SAPS members arrested a 32 year old man in Cypress Street, Westridge after receiving information that the suspect is trading without a valid second hand goods registration.

The members executed the search warrant and they discovered that the suspect did not comply with the Second Hand Goods Act and that he did not possess a valid license. A total of 138 second hand tyres was confiscated.

A case of dealing in second hand goods without a valid registration was opened for investigation. Both men will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates' Court on Monday (2017-04-24).


The illegal trade of second hand goods is high on the agenda of SAPS in the Western Cape in their quest to reduce crime.
