1 Feb 2018, Bellville, Cape Town: In their pursuance to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of the community, members attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad and the K9 unit reacted to information of a suspicious motor vehicle in Bellville yesterday afternoon.
During a search of the area, the vehicle, a golden Opel Astra was spotted with three male occupants and pulled over. An initial investigation led to the discovery of three unlicensed 9 mm firearms, and that the vehicle was hijacked earlier this month in Kraaifontein.
The suspects aged 34, 34 and 36 were arrested and are expected to make a court appearance in Bellville, once they have been charged. The involvement of the suspects in other serious and violent crimes in the Peninsula is also under our spotlight.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General KE Jula expressed his appreciation towards his members for the arrests, and said that these armed criminals were not roaming the streets for no reason. They were likely about to perpetrate another robbery.
