CAPE TOWN SAPS NEWS: FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED AT AN ABALONE PROCESSING PLANT IN MONTE VISTA
South African Police Service | Western Cape | NARI

18 Jan 2018, Cape Town: Criminals who ruthlessly strip our precious marine resources for lucrative foreign markets will remain in our sights in this province as indicated in our latest achievement earlier today.

During an intelligence driven operation, SAPS members searched a residential address in the suburb Monte Vista, and came across an abalone processing plant where four suspects aged between 25 and 35 were arrested.

Besides the huge quantity of abalone, various abalone processing apparatus were seized. We are still in the process to determine the estimated value of the seizure in conjunction with DAFF.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General KE Jula regards the operation as a significant blow to the illegal abalone trade and commended his members for their great work.
