15 Dec 2017, Strand, Western Cape: Five suspects arrested for the possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle

Today at 09:10 members of the Western Cape Flying Squad managed to arrest five suspects, aged between 24 and 32, who were caught with four firearms on the N2 opposite Strand Business Park.

The suspects are all from Lwandle and were presumably en route to commit a business robbery. They were driving a silver Chevrolet Cruze motor vehicle which had been hijacked in Harare.

This vehicle had been kept under observation for four days by the Provincial Major Offences Team. Currently members from the Local Criminal Record Centre are busy taking touch DNA on the hands of the suspects.

They will be properly profiled and are due to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday (2017-12-18) on charges of possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Another charge of the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle will also be added.
