1 Oct 2017, Cape Town: Cape Town police say they're following up several leads in their probe into the killing of 18 people in Philippi East on the Cape Flats. They've established a special team to investigate the murders.

Residents are now calling for the army to be deployed in the area. Eleven people were gunned down late on Friday evening while seven others were killed on Tuesday.

Community leaders are currently meeting with Western Cape Community Safety officials and the Human Rights Commission.

Senior police officials say they're receiving regular updates from detectives on the progress of the investigation.

Specialist units including, intelligence operatives and the tactical response team are part of the probe.
