29 May 2018, Nelspruit, Mpumalanga: Police in Mpumalanga are looking for two armed men who robbed and locked on-duty Security Guards in the holding cells of the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, 26 May 2018 at approximately 21:00, and stole state property.

According to information at police disposal, a passer-by raised an alarm in the early hours of yesterday morning, when they heard people screaming for help from inside the court.

Police were summoned and upon arrival, they found the security guards locked up in the court’s holding cells. A probe by police revealed that the suspects, who were wearing balaclavas allegedly gained entry into the court premises by breaking the padlock at the gate.

They further broke into some offices then stole computers, two state vehicles as well as personal belongings of the guards before locking them in the holding cells. The vehicles, a Nissan Hardbody and Chevrolet Aveo, were found abandoned in Gauteng earlier today.

No one has been arrested with regards to this matter. Any person with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Constable Oupa Mahlangu at 071 640 3178/017 773 0050 or call the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
