MPUMALANGA SAPS: 5 FARM MURDER SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR MURDERING 66 YEAR OLD MOOIHOEK FARMER

23 Dec 2017, Nelspruit: The police at Piet Retief have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a 66 year old farmer from Mooihoek.

The brutal incident took place yesterday around 19:45, when the farmer was arriving at his farm house only to find the gates to his house open. He apparently proceeded to the house and shortly thereafter noticed a group of five men wearing balaclavas entering the house.

According to information at police disposal, a shootout ensued between the farmer and the suspects. Further information revealed that two of the suspects were shot but managed to escape however, the farmer was fatally wounded.

The police were summoned to the scene, one of the injured suspects was found around the vicinity, three of them were arrested during the night at their different hideouts while the last one was found in the bushes this morning, trapped by the severity of the wound he sustained during the shooting. The firearm used during the commission of the Crime was also recovered by the police.

In total, two suspects were admitted for medical treatment under police guard, three are behind bars and they will appear at the Piet Retief Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 27 December 2017.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma praised the speedy arrests by the committed men and women in blue. He further said that the police will not fold their arms while the community is being tormented by marauding criminals.
