SCAMS WARNING: Police Caution Communities to be Wary of Various Scams Doing the Rounds

The South African Police Service in Limpopo are on a continuous basis receiving complaints and reports from members of the community who are being tormented by the unscrupulous individuals soliciting cash from them for various promises in different areas.

The recent trends were reported from the Polokwane, Mankweng and Botlokwa Police Stations.

In Polokwane, the Police have launched a massive manhunt for an unknown

person who is calling himself the ‘Premier of Limpopo Province, the Honourable Chupu Stanley Mathabatha’.

Since July 2018 to date, this person is calling different high profile people telephonically in Limpopo and in other Provinces, requesting various cash amounts while providing them with account numbers where the money should be deposited into.

Meanwhile, unknown people are calling various motorists who were involved in motor vehicle accidents where alcohol tests were obtained and identifying themselves as ‘Captain Mashiane’ or ‘Captain Steyn’ from Mankweng and Botlokwa Police Stations respectively.

They inform their victims that, the results of their blood tests are back and they are found to be above the alcohol limit which will lead them to get jail terms for driving under the influence of liquor. Their demand include for the victims to pay an exorbitant amount of cash for the blood tests results of these so called cases to be destroyed.

Members of the community are urged to be vigilant and not to fall victim to these scams by complying to their illegal demands.

Government Departments don't have procedures of demanding money in exchange of any service to be rendered.

Anyone who is involved in any type of incidents including cases, must know that, the investigating Officers carrying the docket in their case will communicate with them accordingly and without demanding any remuneration including cash.

Do not fall prey to these faceless individuals and when you receive such calls, report them to your nearest Police Station or call Crime Stop at 0860010111 or SMS Crime Line at 32211.
