2 POLICE CONSTABLES WERE ATTACKED IN A HAIL OF BULLETS, ONE CONSTABLE SHOT IN THE HEAD

1 May 2018, Limpopo: The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba condemns in the strongest possible terms the incident in which police members were last night, 30 April 2018, attacked in a hail of bullets by unknown suspects.

The incident took place at about 21h20 when two members were traveling in a marked police van, on the way to attend to a complaint at the local mine.

As the members were approaching the speed hump at Masha village at Ngwaabe in Skhukhune policing area, a Toyota Etios came speeding from behind and overtook them. The members turned the blue lights on, wanting to stop them.

The vehicle suddenly stopped and two rifle wielding suspects jumped out and started spraying the police vehicle with bullets, concentrating on the crew side.

A 26 year old Constable, who was the van crew, was in the process hit on the side of the head. He was taken to hospital in a satisfactory condition. The other member was not injured.

The police van was damaged during a hail of bullets when the suspects fired shots in a precision that was clearly aimed at eliminating the occupants. The suspects are believed to be the ones terrorising the areas of Burgersfort, Jane Furse and Groblersdal.

The police have opened two counts of Attempted Murder and Malicious Damage to Property.

A manhunt for the suspects has already been launched and anyone with information is requested to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the toll free number 0860010111 or contact the nearest police.
