The Police in Limpopo have experienced a high rate of reported incidents of missing persons in the recent past.

In dealing with this situation effectively, a Dedicated Team of members from different Units led by the Search and Rescue Unit was established for any eventuality around the clock.

In the Gilead Policing precinct outside Mokopane, 2-year-old Emmanuel Kesobelamang and a 76-year-old Ramaesela Johanna Mashalane from Ga-Taueatswala village near

Steilloop were reported missing on two separate incidents on Sunday 9 September 2018 and Monday 10 September 2018, respectively.

The family members of the 2-year-old boy reported the matter to the Police on the same day and subsequently, a joint search operation ensued composed of the Saps Search and Rescue unit, Mounted Police Unit, the Air-wing, the Gilead Saps members supported by the family and members of the community which went all over the area searching for the victim until in the evening with no success.

The following day on 11 September 2018, the search operation continued until at about 11:00 midday when the toddler was successfully found sleeping under the tree well and alive in the nearby bushes. He was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.

In another incident, on Thursday 13 September 2018, the family of the 76-year-old woman arrived at Gilead Police Station and reported that she left home to the Church over the past weekend and to date, she was nowhere to be found.

The joint search operation was immediately activated, composed of the above-mentioned role players which was up and running until the granny was also found sleeping under the tree alive and well in the bushes which is about 20 kilometers away from her home in this village.

The victim who is believed to have been sleeping in the bushes since she disappeared, was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended these Teams of the Saps Units and the Gilead Police Station for their quick reaction to these incidents and made such a great achievement especially for finding the victims alive.

Members of the community are still encouraged to prioritize the elderly care and child safety at all times to prevent and avoid this type of incidents to happen.

Members of the community are also advised to report any incidents of missing persons immediately because there is no waiting period.

If possible, bring along the photo of the victim as well as the description of the clothing she or he was wearing during the disappearance, concluded General Ledwaba.
