SAPS NEWS - POLICE CONDEMN UNREST SITUATION AFTER TWO PEOPLE WERE KILLED

23 Apr 2018, Limpopo: The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned in the strongest terms the violent protest which erupted in the Waterval Policing area after two people were killed.

This condemnation by the Provincial Commissioner follows the killing of two people during a house robbery at Bungeni Basani village in the Waterval Policing area outside Makhado last night on 2018-02-21 at about 20:30.

It is alleged that a 43 year old woman was at her homestead together with her children when she was attacked by three unknown armed suspects.

They demanded money and cellphones but before she could responded, they started to shooting randomly whereby they shot her and also her 19 and 21 year old sons and a 25 year old daughter who died instantly.

The 43 year old woman and her two sons were later taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

During the scuffle ,one of the suspects was also shot to death allegedly by his accomplices before they fled the scene and fled the scene after they robbed the victims of their three cellphones.

The Police were notified and reacted swiftly until they found this suspect lying dead a distance away from the victim's house. The three cellphones believed to have been robbed during this ordeal and a cash amount of R1200.00 where found in his possession.

The police have opened cases of Murder, three counts of attempted murder and house robbery. The three victims are still recuperating in hospital with serious gun shot wounds.

Responding to this incident, members of the community at Basani Mtsetweni and the surrounding villages went on a rampage and barricaded the roads between Diza and Mashau villages with various objects.

Members of the community are warned to keep calm, refrain from any form of violnce including damage to any property. They must give the Police space to investigate and deal with these incidents fully, concluded General Ledwaba.

The deceased suspect is still unknown and his accomplices are still on the run and there is no arrest.
