6 Feb 2018, Limpopo: The SAPS Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the acts of mob-attacks and vigilantism which erupted last night in Apel and Mecklenburg Policing areas respectively.

In Apel outside Lebowakgomo, two unknown suspected burglars were brutally attacked and killed by unknown group of community members last night on 2018-02-05 at about 20:30.

It is alleged that two unknown middle aged men were dropped off by a certain motor vehicle a few metres away from the local health centre who were then taken in and later transferred to the hospital for further medical treatment and they were both certified dead on arrival.

The Police were summoned and reacted swiftly where the initial investigations and manhunt ensued. The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but mob-attack or vigilantism may not be ruled out.

Meanwhile in the Mecklenburg Policing area outside Burgersfort, the house with all contents was torched by unknown group of community members last night on 2018-02-05 at about 21:00 at Mandagshoek village.

It is alleged that a group of community members have attacked and torched the house of one of the local Mine manager and disappeared into darkness the suspects are unknown and there are no arrests.

The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but the Police investigations will tell as they are still unfolding.

The arson case is opened and the estimated damage caused during this incident is over R800 000.00.

Anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of these suspects on both incidents and on the identification of the two deceased on the Apel incident, may contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.

“Taking the law into one's own hands is always a serious transgression of the Laws of this Country including the community Policing principles and as such, it must be condemned with the most strongest possible terms.

The senseless and barbaric acts which are still taking place in some parts of this Province, must stop abruptly in the spirit of partnership Policing and community Policing and for those who are still closing their ears, the Police are going to deal with them mercilessly and without compromise, “ concluded Lieutenant General Ledwaba.
