Newborn Baby Found Abandoned, Next of Kin Sought by Nkandla Police, Case of Child Abandonment Opened

On 3 February 2019 at 06:00, Nkandla police were alerted by a member of the community of a new-born baby in a dust bin at Ithala Centre in Nkandla. The police responded and found a new-born baby girl inside a dust bin in a plastic bag covered with a blanket. The baby was taken to hospital for medical attention. Her mother is
unknown and a case of child abandonment was opened at the Nkandla police station for investigation. The Eshowe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the case.
Anyone with the knowledge of the next of kin of the baby is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Xoliswa Mdluli on 063 317 9071 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
