KING WILLIAM’S TOWN: Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) arrested a 43-year- old man for alleged rape of a 52-year-old woman. The suspect was arrested today at Phaphasini Locality, Mboya Village, Willowvale.
It is alleged that the victim was attending a traditional ceremony on Wednesday, 4 July 2018 at about 23:00 at Phaphasini Locality, Mboya Village, Willowvale. While she was
on her way to the traditional ceremony, she heard some footsteps from behind. She discovered that it was the suspect who hails also from the same village.
The suspect allegedly accosted her and overpowered her. The suspect is alleged to have raped the victim. The suspect has been avoiding the police but was finally traced and arrested today. He has been charged with rape. He will appear before the Willowvale Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 July 2018 on a rape charge.
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey condemned the alleged rape. He appealed to the women not to walk alone especially during the night and bushy areas as they become the victims of crime.
