10 Nov 2017, Durbanville, Cape Town: A police officer, as well as two suspects, were wounded following a shootout after an armed robbery at a cellular phone store in Durbanville in Cape Town's northern suburbs on Friday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said that armed robbers hit the store at around 11h45.

"Durbanville police gave chase and the suspects fled to Kraaifontein area where a shoot-out occurred," Rwexana said.

"A police member in his thirties, stationed at Kraaifontein SAPS, was shot and wounded in his hand and transported to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries."

"Two suspects were also shot and wounded during the incident and admitted to hospital under police guard. A firearm was confiscated."

"Cases of attempted murder and business robbery are under investigation. Once charged, the suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate's court."

Police management condemned the attack on the police members.
