17 Nov 2017, Lamberts Bay: Matthys Koch, NSRI Lamberts Bay station commander, said:

At 11h30, Friday, 17th November, NSRI Lamberts Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Lamberts Bay main beach.

We dispatched rescue swimmers and the SA Police Services responded but sadly on arrival on the scene a 21 year old male, from a farm in Citrusdal and reportedly on a Christmas outing with friends and colleagues, was found already out of the water on the beach and deceased after reportedly being rescued from the surf by friends and colleagues.

The body of the man has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.

NSRI, Police and the Department of Health Forensic Pathology Services convey sincere condolences to family and friends.
