27 Oct 2017, Namibia: During the early hours of Friday morning, News, Accidents, Robberies & Incidents received reports of a beached whale between Walvis and Aphrodite Beach in Namibia.

According to the source, Fire and Emergency Services have been notified. One of the Rescue teams who arrived moments ago, requested all fishermen and anyone in the area to please assist.

The whale (photos in Gallery below) is alive and they are trying to get the mammal back into the ocean.

More info will follow as it becomes available.

The Third Whale in One Month:

Another dead whale washed ashore. This humpback whale washed ashore about 18 kilometres north of Cape Fria in the Skeleton Coast Park recently. The carcass of this whale is almost ten metres long which indicates that it is a young adult.

The humpback is distinguished by its long pectoral fins and hump on its head. In this case no visible injuries were seen on the whale’s carcass, leaving the cause of death unknown.

A number of whale deaths occurred along the Namibian coast in recent months. The most recent being a young whale, that washed ashore at Solitude just south of Henties Bay about a month ago.

Long finned pilot whales are another species that frequents the Namibian coast and some of these whales have also been found dead on the beaches in the region of Cape Fria. In the picture one of the men that found the washed up carcass can be seen measuring the length of the animal.

Last month a grown humpback whale beached at Solitude, south of Henties Bay between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

The cause of death of this marine mammal has not yet been determined. Members of Namibia Dolphin Project were called to the scene yesterday where they examined the carcass.

Whale strandings reported along the Namibian coastline have increased significantly over the past few months and have become a cause for concern for environmentalists.
