6 Jan 2018, St Francis Bay, Eastern Cape: At 13h40, Saturday, 06th January, NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew responded to Sunset Rocks where two spearfishermen were reported to be in difficulty.

Realising they were in difficulty in the water while spearfishing the men had dropped their weight belts to assist them to reach a rocky outcrop close off-shore.

On arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers reached them on an island area close off-shore.

One of the spearfishermen was found to be semi-conscious and suffering from non-fatal drowning symptoms and the patient was stabilised by the NSRI rescue swimmers.

He was then brought to mainland through the surf by NSRI rescue swimmers and he has been transported to hospital in a stable condition by Private Care ambulance services.
