3 April 2017, Cape Town:News, Accidents, Robberies & Incidents (NARI) received information about a food poisoning incident. Sadly a child has died and a man is still in a critical condition after allegedly eating poisonous food in Weltevreden Valley in Mitchells Plain.
Spokesperson for the Western Cape Health Department, Darren Francis, says seven people apparently ate the food.
Three other children are all in a serious condition and are receiving treatment at the Red Cross Children's Hospital.
The man is being treated at Groote Schuur Hospital.
Another person who ate the food was discharged earlier from Mitchells Plain hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
A Four-year-old girl died of alleged food poisoning on Sunday after eating from a pot of chicken, later started suffering seizures.
According to IOL, the family rushed to a neighbour and asked that he transport them to the nearest hospital.
The family did not have any money and could not pay for the ride and they returned home. The 4 year old died soon after.
Another family member, believed to be the grandfather of the little girl, started feeling very ill and he managed to get transport to the clinic.
It's believed that he was later transferred to Groote Schuur hospital for further treatment.
A second child, aged 6, also died in hospital.
Four other people and 3 minors, were hospitalised in critical condition in various hospitals around Cape Town.
The South African Police Service is investigating the incident and inquest dockets have been opened for the 2 children who died.
