12 Jun 2018, Verulam, Kwa-Zulu Natal: Rapist Stepdad Escapes: Verulam - KwaZulu Natal The public is requested to assist in locating 43 year old rape suspect Calvin Raman (pictured) who has escaped from hospital.
Calvin is accused of raping his 10 year old daughter over a 5 year period. He was apprehended by members of the community on Neptune Drive in Verulam yesterday afternoon.
He was severely assaulted during the course of his arrest by the community. He was transported to Osindisweni Hospital by Police and escaped during the course of last night. The investigating Officer has appealed to RUSA to assist in rearresting the wanted man.

A cellphone containing photographic and video evidence regarding the rape of a 10 year old girl has been recovered.
Residents of Netune Drive in Verulam confiscated the phone from a 43 year old man who is accused of raping and molesting his step daughter. At approximately 17:35 yesterday members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the area after the community confronted the man after a resident found used condoms in his home. Residents questioned the child who admitted that since her mother passed away 5 years ago her stepfather had been raping and molesting her.
In December last year they had relocated from Johannesburg to Verulam. The suspect had held her captive and prevented her from enrolling in school for fear that she may tell someone of the rape. Several sex toys, lingerie and pornographic videos were found in his house. The child admitted that she was forced by her step father to use the lingerie and sex toys while he photographed and made videos of her.
When the suspect returned from work he was confronted. The mob consisting of men and woman managed to apprehend him after he attempted to flee. They then began assaulting him and ceased his cellphone which contained incriminating evidence.
The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to Police for further investigation.
