GRIEVING MOTHER HAS LAID HER CHILD TO REST, BUT HAS NOT YET GOTTEN CLOSURE

10 Jun 2017, Cape Town: Once again I ask all my friends to please help us out. Turn your settings to public and share this post. Either on your own page or group pages. Preferably both. Please. My heart is filled with equal amounts of anger and sorrow.

As you probably know, my 19yr old daughter, Tahlia, was killed on 28 April 2017. As you also know, we’ve been playing it cool – hoping/expecting some form of justice. Well, no more Mr. Nice Guy! It is time for some hard ball. These are the facts as we know them.

1. The driver who crashed into the car my daughter was a passenger in, WAS drunk. Extremely so. (Eyewitness statements and yes, we have seen his blood tests taken that night)

2. According to eyewitness, he may have been going in excess of more than twice the speed limit on that road. Also, he made no attempt to avoid the collision, either by braking or swerving. (See attached photo of the vehicle, how hard he hit it for it to look like that)

3. He has STILL not been charged with anything. This, despite the fact that the Johannesburg Metro Police Department officer on the scene states clearly in his accident report that he “Skipped drove across a red steady disc light”. He also states that he “Acted recklessly and negligently as the National Road Traffic Act 1993 of 1996 and the Criminal Procedure Act”. Furthermore he states that “I noticed a strong smell of alcohol inside vehicle in and around the front seats, there was also visible liquid spatter in and around the vehicle”.

4. This driver STILL has not made a statement. Nor has he been pressured to do so.

5. Despite repeated requests and attempts, I have not received permission to retrieve diagnostics from the vehicle he was driving. The police have not been able to help me obtain access to his vehicle, it is ‘up to the owner’. How ludicrous is that?? He’s the suspect, surely the police can and should obtain his vehicle as evidence? The driver of the vehicle my daughter was traveling in gave us immediate access to her vehicle.

Taking into account all of the above, it is clear that, if we continue to leave it, Tahlia will receive no justice whatsoever. This is why I am approaching the public once again. I would like to hire a lawyer and/or private investigator to help us light a fire and bring this boy to justice.

And so, I am appealing to all my friends, and anyone willing, to please make a small financial donation to help us pay for this, as we are not in a financial position to do so at this stage.
