6 Jul 2017, Cape Town: Ralph Stanfield, the alleged 28s gang boss was shot and seriously wounded in Sandton. The shooting took place in Melrose, near the Athol offramp.

According to Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, Stanfield heard gunshots and then realised that he was the target, then he tried to outrun his shooters.

He was however shot but still managed to drive himself to a nearby clinic. He is alleged to have lost control of his vehicle as he approached the clinic and crashed into other cars.

He was taken into the clinic and later transferred to an unidentified hospital.

A newer underworld faction, said to be headed by businessman Nafiz Modack, has been forcefully taking over security at nightclubs from an older underworld faction, a report says.

This has led to violence, including several shootings.
