CAPE TOWN: 9 PEOPLE WERE SHOT DEAD IN TAXI RELATED SHOOTINGS YESTERDAY

26 May 2018, Cape Town: Western Cape police say nine people have been killed in taxi related shooting incidents in Nyanga and Philippi East since yesterday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana says two suspects, aged 39 and 45 were arrested in Gugulethu last night and two unlicensed Firearms seized following a shooting incident at a taxi rank in Wynberg yesterday afternoon.

Rwexana says a detective-led task team has been set up to probe the eleven shooting incidents.

"Five murders are probed by the detectives in Philippi East where victims aged between 26 and 43 years old were shot and fatally wounded. A murder case is under investigation by Nyanga."

"A 40-year old man was shot and fatally wounded and in the early hours of this morning, two other victims were shot and fatally wounded in Nyanga."

"The police continue to monitor the situation and a tactical response national intervention unit will also form part of the operations."
