MOOI RIVER SAPS UPDATE: N3 ROAD STILL CLOSED, 35 TRUCKS DAMAGED, 54 ARRESTED

30 Apr 2018, KwaZulu Natal: The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa has strongly condemned the unlawful protest action along N3 freeway near the Mooi River Toll Plaza last night.

Last night at 19h30, a group of protesters began throwing objects onto the N3 freeway and set some trucks alight.

A total of 35 trucks were damaged including those that were set alight. A total of 54 people were arrested and will face charges of public violence.

KwaZulu Natal Police said the arrested suspects will appear at the Mooi River Magistrate’s Court later today. The road is still blocked due to the trucks that were burnt last night.

Police maintaining presence & on high alert. Traffic is being diverted onto alternative routes for now.
