18 Jun 2018, Pretoria: Two women, Marelize Taljaard and Melanie Booysen have been found traumatised but unharmed after they were taken hostage during a hijacking incident in Pretoria on Sunday night.
Sinoville police spokesperson Johan van Dyk said the hijackers took both women captive in Booysen’s Toyota Corolla.
The kidnappers called the family members of the victims, demanding a ransom, Van Dyk said. "They apparently called the one’s husband to demand R2 000,” said Van Dyk.
“After he transferred the money, the suspects called back claiming that the money could not be withdrawn and he had to make another payment.”
During the early hours of Monday morning at around 03h00, the two women were found on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Mamelodi. It's alleged that a total of R4 000 were transferred into the kidnappers’ bank account.
The hijacked vehicle had not yet been found and police investigation continues.
