6 Jul 2017, Rustenburg: A man was killed and five others injured late last night during a house fire on Hamilton Road in Rustenburg. ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by another service for medical assistance, arriving shortly after 22h00.

Upon arrival, paramedics found that fire services had already extinguished the fire that had damaged the home.

When fire fighters later walked through the home, they found the body of a man lying inside one of the rooms. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple injuries.

Nothing could be done for him and they he declared dead. Paramedics assessed the five other patients and found that one man and one woman had sustained burn wounds offer most of their bodies and were in a critical condition.

The three other patients had sustained moderate burn wounds. Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support interventions.

One critically injured patient was later airlifted by a medical helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg while the four others were transported to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the fire is unknown but all relevant services were on scene to begin their investigations.
