Picture & details of the suspect were circulated on social media after Reaction Officers viewed CCTV footage of her stealing items from several garage shops in the area. A clear video footage (picture 5) shows the Tongaat resident stealing four (4) bars of 300g Lindt Swiss Chocolate valued at R400 from an Engen garage in Verulam.
At approx 09:30 RUSA Officers received information that a suspect fitting the circulated description was seen walking towards a taxi rank on Ireland Street.
A Reaction Officer was despatched to search for her and she was found a short while later. The suspect was attired in the same jeans as seen on the video. It was identified by a floral pattern on her left thigh.
Reaction Officer found several items on her including canned fish. Drugs were also found in her possession. The woman informed Officers that she had stolen ten (10) cans of the fish & sold it in the CBD.
When questioned about the slabs of Lindt Chocolate, the woman informed Officers that she had sold it for R60 to an Indian Businessman who operates a shop on Wick Street.
The Suspect then offered the Reaction Officer sex in return for her release. The Officer placed her under arrest, restrained her & detained the woman.
In recent months Reaction Officers have declined offers of money, gifts & sexual favors by suspects that they have apprehended. Officers were instructed to detain an charge any suspects that offers bribes in any form.
