A 23 YEAR OLD HOUSE BREAK-IN SUSPECT ARRESTED IN TONGAAT, KWAZULU NATAL

23 Feb 2018, Tongaat, KwaZulu Natal: A 23 year old suspect believed to be part of a house break-in syndicate was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa on Topaz Crescent in Belverdere – Tongaat a short while ago.

While on patrol in the area Reaction Officers were flagged down by a resident reporting a house break-in in progress in the vicinity. As Officers entered the yard they noticed four suspects exiting the home and fleeing through a pathway on foot.

A lengthy foot chase ensued resulting in one suspect being arrested. He was found in possession Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which was stolen from the home (picture 4).

During an interview the 23 year old confirmed that he and three other men were dropped off near the home by an accomplice driving a blue Toyota Rav 4. They proceeded to the residence and forced open the security gate and front door. They then began ransacking the house in search of valuables.

While in the process of removing a wall safe the suspects were disturbed. They fled from the home leaving the crow bar still wedged between the safe and the wall. It is alleged that their accomplice sped off when he noticed RUSA Officers approaching.

An extensive search was conducted for the remaining suspects however no further arrests were made. The suspect that was apprehended was injured during his arrest.

He was handed over to authorities for further investigation.
