19 Jan 2018, Somerset West: The Somerset West Regional court has sentenced two alleged gangsters to life in prison for murder. Breatley Hartnick and Luciano Saayman were also sentenced to three years each for housebreaking, which will run concurrently with the life sentences.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut says in April 2016, the victim was stabbed 55 times during an apparent altercation between two rival gangs in Macassar.
Seven suspects were initially arrested but only Hartnick and Saayman were eventually linked to the crime. Traut says it was the determination of a young detective stationed at Macassar Police station, who undeterred by threats against him and his family, secured the life sentences.
