A decomposing body has been discovered in an open field bordering a train line on Truro Road in Trurolands - Tongaat a short while ago.

At approximately 09:26 Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from a member of public reporting a pungent smell emanating from a nearby bush.

A Reaction Officer was dispatched to the location and upon arrival searched the area and found the body of an African male lying face down. The body was in a severe state of decomposition and unidentifiable.

The deceased was dressed in a black track pants and a red t-shirt. He was barefoot however a pair of sandals was found in a packet a few metres away.

Due to the extent of the decomposition it could not be established if the deceased was murdered or died of natural causes.

The South African Police is investigating further.
