A habitual criminal has been arrested by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa after he stole easternwear to the value of R32 000 from a store on Wick Street - Verulam.
On Friday at approx 15h24 the RUSA Operations Center received a call from a female employee of Sabah Collection who noticed a male inside a bank that was wanted on 5 cases of theft.
The man was caught on CCTV footage days before Diwali stealing several Punjabis, Lehengas & Shararas (pictures 4 & 5).
Reaction Officers waited for the 60 year old man & his wife to exit the bank (picture 7) & confronted him. He initially denied knowledge of the theft & was shown the camera footage.
He then informed Officers that he had stolen on five different occasions & sold the items on the street to random people for R300 each during Diwali. One garment was valued at R11 000 & the others approx R3600 each.
The suspects wife informed Officers that her husband had began stealing 29 years ago, was arrested & served a sentence in Westville Prison.
The suspect, who is an Oaklands - Verulam resident was arrested last month (picture 9) by RUSA Officers after he stole goods to the value of R1240 from a chain store in Verulam.
He is currently detained at SAPS Verulam.
