24 Jul 2017, Lydenburg: Lydenburg: Just after 06h00 on Monday morning, a Cash-in-Transit robbery took place on the Long Tom Pass.
It's believed that a car, a white Mercedes, crashed into the cash van and the vehicle overturned.
According to Police reports, 4 vehicles were used in the heist:
Blue Ford Focus
and an Unidentified vehicle.
It's believed that a total of 10 suspects were involved in the heist. Explosives were used to gain entry to the vehicle.
The 5 security guards were held-up at gunpoint. Their weapons were tossed into the nearby field and later recovered by police officers.
None of the security guards were injured during the heist. The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Long Tom Pass is still closed. Police are still on scene gathering evidence and information regarding the incident.
