22 Aug 2017, Benoni: Monday morning at about 09h50, a cash-in-transit vehicle was attacked while travelling along the corner of Apex and London roads when it collided with a silver, grey and blue bakkie which pushed it off the road,” said Mothapo. Actonville SAPS spokesperson Capt Pheello Mothapo said the guard was rushed to hospital shortly after the incident.

According to Mothapo, it is alleged that after the collision, a silver and grey BMW and a white Polo carrying about 10 armed criminals approached the scene.

The robbers then opened fire and instructed the security guards to leave the truck. “The suspects blew up the truck using unknown explosives,” Mothapo added.

“An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The suspects used the BMW and Polo as their getaway vehicles.”

Mothapo said a local security van which responded to the complaint was shot at and the security officer’s firearm was taken by the suspects.

“No one was arrested and the police are investigating the case,” Mothapo said on Monday afternoon.
