17 May 2018, Boksburg, Gauteng: Heavy Police presence are currently on the scene of what is believed to be a double-cash-in-transit heist on Atlas Road in Boksburg.
Two trucks were blown up and the suspects managed to flee with an undisclosed amount of money.
Eight people sustained moderate injuries following an apparent cash in transit heist in Atlas road in Benoni this morning.
ER24 paramedics came across the incident just before 10H00 where they found two blown up cash in transit vehicles. Upon further assessment, they found eight people who had sustained moderate injuries. Two of them are believed to be bystanders.
ER24, as well as another medical service on the scene, transported the patients to hospital for further medical care.
According to information received a section of the M2 is closed as police continue to search for suspects. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Severe traffic delays between the Benrose and Denver off-ramps.
Five suspects were arrested after a high speed chase and a shoot out between police and the robbers. The suspects fled to the George Goch hostel where police managed to make the arrests.
Two rifles and a pistol were seized. A manhunt continues for the remaining suspects. It's believed that more than 10 suspects were involved in the heists.
