SAPS | Limpopo | NARI

6 May 2018, Polokwane, Limpopo: The South African Police Service in Mogwadi outside Polokwane are investigating a case of culpable homicide after four (4) people perished when motor vehicles collided head-on yesterday late afternoon, 5 May 2018.

It is alleged that two motor vehicles were travelling opposite directions along Mogwadi and Polokwane road, when one was trying to overtake another car until it collided head-on with the incoming one.

Two (2) occupants from Polo VW and two (2) from the Mazda Etude died on impact. Five (5) other occupants from both vehicles sustained serious injuries and they were immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The process of identifying the deceased is still unfolding. The cause of this fatal crash is still not clear at this stage but the Police investigations will tell as they are still continuing.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has raised a serious concern on the high rate of road fatalities which are still happening in a number of areas throughout this Province.

Motorists must at all times respect the Road Traffic Act in all our roads to prevent this continuous loss of lives to happen.

The South African Police Service in conjunction with the relevant traffic Law Enforcement Agencies in this Province are going to deal mercilessly with all the drivers who are still behaving in contravention of the rules of the road, concluded Lieutenant General Ledwaba.
